Southern California Edison crews are working to determine what triggered a power outage that left more than 16,000 Edison customers temporarily without power in Santa Monica Tuesday.

According to SCE’s website, the outage began at about 6 a.m., affecting thousands of customers in the area. At one point, 16,682 customers were without power, although the number quickly began falling as crews responded to the scene.

Edison spokesman David Song said power was restored to all customers by 9:42 a.m.

He said the cause of the outage was still unclear, but crews were working to determine what triggered the power loss.
