The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County decreased Friday for the 10th time in 11 days, dropping eight-tenths of a cent to $5.333.
The average price has dropped 5.4 cents over the past 11 days, including 1.1 cents Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped three consecutive days, rose two-tenths of a cent last Friday and resumed dropping Saturday.
The average price is 3.9 cents less than one week ago, but 14.9 cents more than one month ago and 44.1 cents higher than one year ago. It has dropped $1.161 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price dropped for the 15th time in 16 days, decreasing eight-tenths of a cent to $5.251. It has dropped 9.8 cents over the past 16 days, including 1.2 cents Thursday. It dropped seven consecutive days, rose two-tenths of a cent April 25, then resumed dropping last Friday.
The Orange County average price is 4.5 cents less than one week ago, but 10.1 cents more than one month ago and 41.1 cents higher than one year ago. It has dropped $1.208 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
“After a few months of supply interruptions from refinery breakdowns and maintenance, Oil Price Information Service reports that California refineries have been operating at above 86% of their capacity for the past two weeks,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
“Additionally, OPIS reported the U.S Energy Information Administration believes that the country has already experienced its highest gas price point for the first half of this year. Although California prices often go against national trends, that prediction is an encouraging sign for further price drops at the pump.”
The national average price dropped four-tenths of a cent to $3.667 following back-to-back increases totaling 1.4 cents. It is seven-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, 11.8 cents higher than one month ago and 8.1 cents greater than one year ago.
The national average price has dropped $1.349 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
