The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County recorded its largest decrease since Jan. 10 Tuesday, dropping 2 cents to $5.15, its lowest amount since March 31.
The average price has dropped 15 consecutive days and 24 of the past 25, decreasing 22.2 cents over the past 25 days, including four-tenths of a cent Monday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped nine consecutive days, was unchanged May 6 and resumed dropping the following day.
The average price is 9.2 cents less than one week ago and 23.6 cents less than one month ago, but 29.1 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.344 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price dropped for the 25th time in 26 days, decreasing 1.6 cents to 5.062, its lowest amount since March 28. It has dropped 23.5 cents over the past 26 days, including three-tenths of a cent Monday.
The Orange County average price is 9.5 cents less than one week ago and 26.4 cents less than one month ago, but 23.7 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.397 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
A run of 10 decreases in 11 days to the national average price totaling 5.2 cents ended with an increase of eight-tenths of a cent to $3.598. It is 1.4 cents less than one week ago and 7.5 cents lower than one month ago, but 5.9 cents more than one year ago.
The national average price has dropped $1.418 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
“The news continues to be good for motorists ahead of Memorial Day, with gasoline prices again falling, making it four straight weeks of declines for the national average as we get closer to the start of the summer driving season,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from more than 150,000 stations.
“While the Middle East, hurricane season, refinery maintenance and any other unexpected disruptions or weather remain wild cards, this summer is shaping up to be mostly favorable for drivers hitting the road.”
