The Long Beach City Council will consider approving a venue use guarantee with the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympics at its meeting on June 11, city officials announced Monday.
Potential Long Beach venues include the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center area, Marina Green and Alamitos Beach, the waterfront around the Belmont Shore Beach area, and Marine Stadium, Long Beach city officials said.
“By approving the Venue Use Guarantee, Long Beach is well-positioned to be the largest venue city outside of Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Mayor Rex Richardson said. “We anticipate that our city will see a significantly larger event footprint for 2028 than in previous Olympics, ensuring Long Beach is featured on the world stage.”
The guarantee ensures the availability of these designated venues for all event needs and outlines the terms and conditions for venue usage, officials said. If the council approves the guarantee, Long Beach officials will continue to collaborate with LA28 to finalize specific dates and further refine the areas to facilitate LA28’s site builds and operations.
The LA28 Games are scheduled from July 14-Aug. 27, 2028.
The upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will take place from July 26-Aug. 11.
