There were five tickets sold with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, including two in California, one each at gas station-restaurant in Yucca Valley in the Mojave Desert and a grocery store in Morgan Hill in Silicon Valley. They are each worth $226,328.
While tickets with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, sold in other states are worth $1 million or a multiple of $1 million, California law requires major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis, meaning they are determined by sales and the number of winners.
The ticket with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, sold in North Carolina is worth $4 million because the player utilized the Megaplier option, where for an additional $1 any non-jackpot prize is multiplied by the Megaplier number drawn, according to lottery officials.
The tickets with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, sold in Louisiana and Oklahoma are each worth $1 million.
The numbers drawn Tuesday were 56, 66, 67, 68, 69 and the Mega number was 18. The estimated jackpot was $760 million, the eighth largest jackpot in the history of the game and 15th largest in U.S. history. There have been seven Powerball drawings with larger jackpots, according to according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game.
The drawing was the 28th since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number are 1 in 302,575,350, according to the California Lottery. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.
The Mega Millions game is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. Virgin Islands.
