A pedestrian was killed and a motorist was rushed to a hospital Saturday in a crash on the Harbor (110) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 6:34 a.m. Saturday to the southbound freeway north of First Street, where the pedestrian, a man approximately 40 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles Fire Department and California Highway Patrol reported.

CHP officers responding to the scene found the pedestrian had been struck by a black Honda Civic, whose driver remained at the scene, and possibly “multiple other vehicles,” according to a CHP news release.

The motorist, a 47-year-old man, was taken to a hospital in fair condition. A 23-year-old man, possibly a passenger inside the vehicle, declined transport to a hospital, the LAFD’s Margaret Stewart said.

A Sigalert was issued at 6:50 a.m. closing the southbound freeway for an unknown duration, according to the CHP. It was lifted at 9:13 a.m.
