Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach Monday as part of nationwide protests against President Donald Trump.
The “Not My President” gatherings, held on Presidents Day, were organized by The 50501 Movement, which planned demonstrations in all 50 states to protest what the group called “the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies.”
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division issued several updates at midday Monday cautioning the public to expect delays and possible traffic obstruction in and around the Civic Center.
Police later said a new, permitted demonstration formed at the steps of City Hall and was also expected to cause traffic delays in the Civic Center area.
A large but apparently peaceful crowd also gathered in front of Long Beach City Hall. The Long Beach Post later reported that the demonstrators were occupying the eastbound lanes of Ocean Boulevard and marching east from the Civic Center.
