One person was killed and least four other people were injured Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway near downtown Los Angeles triggered by a wrong-way driver, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 5:25 a.m. Sunday on the westbound freeway, just east of Central Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol, where a vehicle was going eastbound in the westbound lanes.
The crash involved a white pickup truck and a dark-colored sedan, the CHP said. The Los Angeles Police Department advised at 5:33 a.m. that the crash was caused by a wrong-way driver.
The CHP said at 7:04 a.m. that four people were taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.
A Sigalert was issued at 7:06 a.m. closing four lanes on the westbound freeway east of Central Avenue for at least two hours.
No further information was immediately available.
