There were two big winners in Saturday evening’s Powerball lottery — the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history, with a $1.8 billion grand prize.
The winning tickets were sold in Missouri and Texas.
The cash value of the winning tickets was not immediately clear, nor the tax amounts that would be deducted in each state.
Lottery officials raised the estimate Friday morning from $1.7 billion after reviewing national ticket sales.
This marks the first drawing with a grand prize winner since May 31, when a ticket worth $207 million was sold at a convenience store in Arleta. Until Saturday evening, that run produced 101 other winning tickets worth $1 million or more and more than 1,000 tickets worth $50,000 or more, according to Powerball officials.
There were also a pair of $2 million jackpot winners — in Kansas and Texas — in which players matched 5 winning numbers and opted for the Power Play.
Additionally, there were several other $1 million jackpot winners who matched 5 of the numbers. The states with two such winners were California, Illinois, New York, Ohio and Texas. The states with a single million-dollar winner were Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon and West Virginia.
The winning numbers Saturday night were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62 and the Powerball number was 17.
Shortly after the 8 p.m. drawing, the Powerball website crashed, but came back online a short time later.
Monday’s jackpot is estimated at $20 million.
The largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history was the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won by Edwin Castro in November 2022. That ticket was sold at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in 292.2 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.9.
The Powerball game is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
Meanwhile, the jackpot in California’s other multistate lottery, the Mega Millions game, stands at $358 million for Tuesday’s drawing.
