A man in his 50s was killed Friday when he was ejected from his vehicle during a Palmdale traffic collision.

The crash occurred 12:50 a.m. on the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway north of Sierra Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 42-year-old woman from Palmdale was traveling north in a 2005 Mercedes-Benz C300 in the far right lane when she struck the rear of a 2005 Mini Cooper, which went off the freeway and slammed into a nearby mountainside, according to the CHP. The driver of the Mini Cooper, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz and her passengers were taken to Palmdale Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The deceased victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of relatives. Detectives have not determined if drugs or alcohol were factors leading to the fatal collision.

Anyone with additional information was urged to contact the CHP Antelope Valley Area Office at 661-743-6060. Calls during non-business hours should be directed to the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
