Two Santa Monica Police Department officers who suffered minor injuries in a collision near downtown Santa Monica remain hospitalized Saturday.

The collision between a patrol unit and a civilian vehicle was reported at 9:14 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Main Street and Pico Boulevard, according to Santa Monica Police Department Lt. Lewis Gilmour.

Santa Monica Fire Department personnel responded and evaluated all injured parties at the scene. Two SMPD officers sustained minor injuries and, along with the driver of the second vehicle, were taken to a hospital for further evaluation, Gilmour said.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation, police said. The crash left debris scattered along both Pico and Main for several hours.

In accordance with standard protocol, the California Highway Patrol was requested to conduct the investigation of the collision, Gilmour said.
