The Board of Supervisors Tuesday renewed a $20,000 reward for information leading to the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a motorcyclist in Lynwood.
Elijah Long, 42, was struck around 9:20 a.m. Sept. 27, 2004, while riding his motorcycle north on Atlantic Avenue near Arlington Avenue.
According to county Supervisor Janice Hahn, the driver of a southbound silver or light blue Toyota sedan made a left turn onto Arlington, turning directly in front of Long and causing his motorcycle to slam into the car.
Long was pronounced dead at the scene. The Toyota driver fled east on Arlington.
“The vehicle instead of stopping to help my brother just left him there laying in the road. And we just want answers, and we want those people to come forward,” Long’s sister, Cristina, told ABC7 about a week after the crash.
She said her brother was returning home from a food bank when he was struck.
“He was an avid bike rider. He rode his motorcycle every single day. He loved to be on his bike,” Cristina Long told the station.
Hahn said Long’s death “has left his dad and siblings shattered.”
“Someone knows who was driving that Toyota that day,” Hahn said in a statement. “We need the public’s help to identify this driver and bring them to justice.”
Anyone with information was asked to contact sheriff’s Detective Jorge A. Ortiz at 323-568-4794. Anonymous tips can be made through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
