IKEA announced plans this week to open a new retail location in Culver City in the spring, expanding its Southern California footprint with a smaller-format store in the Helms Design District.
The upcoming location is designed to bring the retailer’s offerings closer to urban customers, according to the Swedish furniture retailer.
The store will occupy about 40,000 square feet of space previously used by luxury furniture retailer HD Buttercup, which closed last year, Helms complex owner Wally Marks III told the Los Angeles Times.
The company announced four new locations in its “2025 Annual Summary” released Tuesday. Six additional openings planned for 2026 were previously announced last year.
“Looking ahead to FY26, we will build on this momentum, focusing on continued investment in the U.S. to make IKEA more affordable, accessible and sustainable,” Rob Olson, interim CEO of IKEA U.S., said in the report.
He said the company improved the ways in which it serves customers by expanding new store formats, enhancing digital tools and broadening rewards programs while continuing to invest in community and environmental initiatives.
When it opens, the Culver City location will mark IKEA’s first urban-format store in Los Angeles, according to the company. Other area locations include stores in Burbank and Carson.
Additional locations are planned in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Gurnee Mills in the Chicago area; and Fort Collins, Colorado, according to IKEA.
