The Writers Guild of America West has canceled its 2026 awards ceremony due to the ongoing writers strike, the Guild announced Sunday.

The ceremony was scheduled for March 8. Officials said an “alternative celebration for this year’s Los Angeles-based nominees will be scheduled at a later date.”

“The non-supervisory staff of the WGAW are currently on strike and the Guild would not ask our members or guests to cross a picket line to attend the awards show,” the group’s Board of Directors said in a letter sent to members Sunday. “The WGAW staff have a right to strike and our exceptional nominees and honorees deserve an uncomplicated celebration of their achievements.

” … We appreciate the talented WGAW staff, producers, writers, event planning professionals, presenters, host Atsuko Okatsuka, and crew who all poured their creativity into what was certain to be an incredible event,” the letter continued. “We’d also like to thank the members who helped shape this celebration of writers by writers: the WGAW Awards Committee, Paul Selvin Committee, Screen Laurel Committee, Television Laurel Committee, and every voting member.”

The 2026 Writers Guild Awards New York ceremony, presented by the Writers Guild of America East, will take place as scheduled March 8.
