Actor James Ortiz, known for his work in the film “Project Hail Mary,” will be honored at the National Hispanic Media Coalition’s annual Impact Awards Gala next week at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, organizers announced Friday.
The event, set for Friday, will recognize individuals and projects that have contributed to greater inclusion and representation in the entertainment industry, according to the coalition.
Ortiz will receive the Artistic Excellence Impact Award for his voice performance and puppetry work in “Project Hail Mary,” where he brought the character Rocky to life.
Organizers said the award recognizes Ortiz’s contributions to performance and puppetry, as well as his role in advancing representation in the entertainment industry.
Previously announced honorees include Apple TV+’s comedy “The Studio,” actress Belissa Escobedo for NBC’s “Happy’s Place,” filmmaker Beth de Araújo for “Josephine” and writers Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan for Netflix’s “KPop Demon Hunters.”
“Latinos are present in every part of Hollywood, in front and behind the camera, and we are elated to have such a well-rounded group at our annual Impact Awards Gala,” President and CEO Brenda Victoria Castillo said in a statement.
Organizers also announced Friday a lineup of presenters for the gala, including Christopher Miller, Rep. JoaquÃn Castro, D-Texas, Nick Pugliese, Phil Lord, Melissa Peterman of “Happy’s Place” and Pablo Castelblanco.
The gala will be hosted by comedians Chris Estrada and Frankie Quiñones.
