The mayor of Huntington Park Monday announced a $1.5 million citywide beautification initiative aimed at improving safety, accessibility and the appearance of the city’s main corridors.
Mayor Eddie Martinez said the effort will begin with Phase I improvements along Pacific Boulevard and Florence Avenue, following a City Council resolution approved March 24.
The initial phase will include micro-surfacing and restriping on Pacific Boulevard between Slauson and Florence avenues, along with replacement of damaged sidewalks, curbs, gutters and curb ramps, officials said. Plans also call for upgraded street lighting and new or improved bus shelters along both corridors.
“I grew up in Huntington Park. These streets and sidewalks are part of who I am,” Martinez said in a statement. “Every family in this city deserves to walk out their front door into a community that feels clean, safe, and cared for.”
City Manager Ricardo Reyes said the project will rely on existing transportation funding sources.
“By leveraging transportation funds already available to the city, we are delivering meaningful improvements to our two most prominent corridors while protecting our General Fund for other critical services,” Reyes said.
Pacific Boulevard serves as the city’s primary commercial corridor, drawing residents, shoppers and visitors from across southeast Los Angeles County, officials said.
City leaders said improvements are intended to support local businesses and enhance the area’s appeal.
Officials said the project will be funded through Measure R and Measure M transportation funds.
