A restored 1930 yacht that once hosted prominent figures including Sir Winston Churchill and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis officially opened Monday in Marina del Rey as a public dining, entertainment and events venue.

The 135-foot Northwind is permanently docked at the California Yacht Club, where it will offer lunch, dinner, weekend brunch, cocktails, live entertainment and private events, according to the operators.

The owners said the vessel has been restored while preserving many of its original maritime features and updating the interior with modern dining spaces, custom lighting, fire features and panoramic views of the harbor.

Originally commissioned in 1930, the yacht has hosted dignitaries, public figures and other notable guests over the decades, according to the operators.

“Our vision was to create a destination that strengthens Marina del Rey’s identity and connects Angelenos to the water,” California Yacht Club co-owner and President Jeff Weiss said in a statement.

The culinary program is led by chef Charles Voudouris, whose previous experience includes the Versace Mansion, Viceroy Anguilla and Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak. Operators said the menu emphasizes seasonal ingredients and locally sourced seafood.

In addition to regular dining service, the Northwind will host weddings, corporate gatherings, cultural programs, chef collaborations and other special events throughout the year, officials said.

The Northwind is open to the public by reservation through its website at www.northwindmdr.com.
