A judge managing the estate of the late director Peter Bogdanovich rescheduled a hearing that was supposed to be conducted Friday due to “unavailability of the court.”

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie C. Santoro said all previous orders and appointments will remain in place pending the new hearing date of Sept. 28. The estate administrators are William Peiffer, Bogdanovich’s longtime business manager and financial adviser, and the filmmaker’s daughter, Alexandra “Sashy” Bogdanovich.

In a status report to the judge in December, the estate’s administrators said the estate was not ready to be closed for many reasons, including that about $450,000 in back taxes were owed by Bogdanovich to the IRS.

“This compounds the problem with this estate, which is potentially insolvent depending on the value of the intellectual property owned by the estate,” the administrators’ attorney wrote.

With creditors claims in excess of $200,000 outstanding not including the $450,000 IRS debt, and less than $100,000 in cash, the only other assets owned by the estate are copyrights, according to the administrators’ attorney.

The copyrights are difficult to value because there is some cloud on title and the future income stream is unknown on some of the copyrights, the administrators’ lawyer further states in his court papers.

“The co-Administrators need to resolve differences of opinion on how to value the copyrights and how to address the potential estate insolvency with the creditors,” according to the administrators’ attorney, who further states that the co-administrators disagree whether the estate is indeed insolvent.

Bogdanovich died in January 2022 at age 82 of complications from Parkinson’s disease. His films included “The Last Picture Show, a 1971 movie which earned him Academy Award nominations for best director and best adapted screenplay, as well as “What’s Up, Doc? ” in 1972 and “Paper Moon” in 1973.
