Six Flags Magic Mountain will offer two new mazes at its annual Fright Fest Halloween event this year, including one based on the popular film franchise “Final Destination.”
“Final Destination: Death’s Playground” will join “Wolves’ Blood,” an original creation, and five returning mazes from last year.
Park officials describe “Final Destination: Death’s Playground” as “a haunted maze where death itself is the antagonist, and where a sudden premonition reveals a chain of catastrophic events just moments before they occur.”
“Wolves’ Blood” is described as “a remote town that has been overrun by werewolves on your way to see underground rock sensation, Wolves’ Blood. This remote location is accessible by invitation only and leads concert-goers from the small-town bus stop, through ransacked stores and barroom brawls to reach The Dungeon theater for Wolves’ Blood’s first ever, live performance.”
The returning maze “The Conjuring Universe” will feature all-new scenic and design elements.
The other returning mazes are “Trick ‘r Treat,” “Carnage,” “Vault 666” and “Willoughby’s Resurrected.”
In addition to the mazes, the event will include the following scare zones:
— “Thunderbolt Alley.” The 1950s and Rockabilly vices are thriving in this all-new alternate universe where classic monsters of all kinds are rocking and rolling to the beat of their afterlives.
— “Nightmares: Reign of Blood.” In the twisted world of Wonderland, the sinister Queen of Hearts and her forces of darkness are on the hunt and painting the roses red with blood.
— “City Under Siege.” Experience the city of death alive with the chaos and the laughter of sinister clowns created by “Carnage.”
— “Devil’s Triangle.” Drift into the darkest caves of the deep blue sea where the souls of many have been lost.
— “Exile Hill.” The hill is alive with spirits of the damned and the curse of the Willoughby family.
— “Plaza de La Muerte.” A spectral celebration of Dia de los Muertos where vibrant colors blend with eerie shadows in an immersive dance of spirits and traditions.
— “Underworlds of Oz.” Journey through the dark side of Emerald City and the mystical realms of Oz where twisted enchantments and ominous shadows consume the golden path, and the line between fantasy and nightmare blurs into a chilling adventure.
The following shows are also on tap this year:
— “Unleashed.” Kurvatu, Fright Fest’s new icon character, and the monsters of Fright Fest will ignite the night with nightmares of all realms in an opening scare-emony in the entry plaza in front of the park’s fountains.
— “NyteWalkerz.” A high-energy street-style performance featuring a mix of acrobatics, dance and edgy BMX stunt work under the night sky, on the Full Throttle Stage.
— “Sliders of the Night: Dreams of the Damned.” The Sliders return with an all-new show.
— “Margo Rita’s Monster Ball.” It’s time to choose a new queen of the monsters in a high-energy song-and-dance review hosted by Fright Fest’s mother monster herself, Margo Rita, and her sister, Tequila Sunrise, at a new location in Gearworks Theatre.
Fright Fest began at the Valencia theme park in 1993 as a relatively modest weekend event. It has gradually grown since then, with major expansion in recent years in an attempt to compete with the two major Halloween players among Southern California theme parks, Knott’s Scary Farm and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.
This year’s Fright Fest will operate Thursdays through Sundays from Sept. 18 to Nov. 1, for a total of 25 nights. Event hours are 7 p.m. to midnight on Thursdays and Sundays, and 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
