Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are set to appear in character from the Emmy-nominated comedy “Hacks” during a one-night-only live show at the Fonda Theatre Friday evening.
“Deborah Vance & Friends & Enemies LIVE!” will feature Smart as comedian Deborah Vance and Einbinder as writer Ava Daniels, marking what HBO Max said will be the first time the actresses have appeared as their characters outside the series.
Additional “Hacks” cast members are expected to make surprise appearances during the event.
The show, which sold out less than 24 hours after tickets became available, is scheduled to run from about 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The event comes as “Hacks” campaigns for Emmy Awards following its final season, which received 24 nominations. HBO Max described the performance as an “in-world production” tied to the second phase of Emmy campaigning.
The comedy’s 24 nominations are the most for a comedy series this year and a record for a single season of a comedy, according to HBO Max. The HBO Max medical drama “The Pitt” led all programs with 25 nominations.
“Hacks,” created by Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, centers on the relationship between veteran Las Vegas comedian Vance and Daniels, a younger comedy writer.
Final Emmy voting is scheduled to conclude Aug. 26. The Emmy Awards will be presented Sept. 14 and broadcast live on NBC.
