Filmmaker John Carpenter and actors Colman Domingo and Charlize Theron will be honored at the sixth annual Academy Museum Gala in October.
Theron will receive the Icon Award, Carpenter will receive the Luminary Award and Domingo will receive the Vantage Award at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ annual fundraising event on Oct. 17, according to the organization.
The gala will be co-chaired by filmmakers Robert Rodriguez, Steven Spielberg and producer Kate Capshaw.
“For our sixth annual Gala, we are honored to recognize John Carpenter, Colman Domingo, and Charlize Theron, whose extraordinary careers exemplify the creativity, innovation, and excellence that continues to move the industry forward,” Academy Museum Director and President Amy Homma said in a statement.
Theron, an Academy Award winner, will receive the Icon Award, which recognizes an artist whose career has had a significant global impact.
Carpenter, known for directing films including “Halloween,” will receive the Luminary Award, which recognizes contributions that have expanded the creative possibilities of filmmaking.
Domingo, a two-time Academy Award nominee, will receive the Vantage Award, which recognizes an artist who has challenged dominant narratives surrounding cinema.
The museum also announced a host committee that includes Jessica Alba, Judd Apatow, Adrien Brody, Jon M. Chu, Kirsten Dunst, Regina Hall, Kate Hudson, Jessica Lange, Greta Lee, John Legend, Rami Malek, Demi Moore, Olivia Munn, Questlove, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Seth Rogen and Teyana Taylor, among others.
Theron is also scheduled to participate in a conversation with the museum’s Teen Council on Aug. 22, accompanied by a screening of her 2015 film “Mad Max: Fury Road,” officials said.
Carpenter is scheduled to host three nights of screenings of his films in September in connection with the museum’s “The Horror Show” exhibition, including a Sept. 26 screening of his 1978 film “Halloween.”
Proceeds from the gala support the museum’s exhibitions, educational programs and film screenings.
Last year’s gala honored Penélope Cruz, Walter Salles, Bruce Springsteen and Bowen Yang.
