The southbound San Diego (405) Freeway will be reduced to three lanes through the Sepulveda Pass beginning Friday evening for extended weekend work on a $143.7 million pavement rehabilitation project.

The lane reductions are scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday between Ventura Boulevard and Mulholland Drive, according to Caltrans.

All three available lanes may be used as indicated by lane striping and signs. Drivers traveling alone may use the carpool lane where the lane reductions are in effect, officials said.

The Ventura Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound 405 Freeway will be closed, along with the southbound 405 off-ramp to Valley Vista Boulevard/Sepulveda Boulevard and the Valley Vista Boulevard/Sepulveda Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound freeway.

The northbound 405 off-ramp to Getty Center Drive will also be closed, but northbound freeway lanes will not be reduced.

Caltrans encouraged motorists to use alternate routes or public transportation.

Residents and businesses near the construction may experience noise, vibrations and dust, according to Caltrans.

Motorists were advised to check Caltrans QuickMap for current road conditions.

The work is part of the I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Van Nuys and Westwood through the Sepulveda Pass and is intended to improve safety and mobility and extend the life of the freeway pavement.
