The pursuit began around 6:50 p.m. when a 47-year-old man carjacked a parked Ford Taurus that he had just rear-ended with his Ford F-150, La Habra Police Department Sgt. Kyle Davis said.

The man forced the uninjured female driver from the Taurus and drove away, he said.

Davis said the man led police through the cities of La Habra, Fullerton, Anaheim, Orange, Tustin and Placentia, over sidewalks and wrong-way on a street in Yorba Linda, before he was caught.

Gerald Paul Tarveer, 47, of La Habra was being booked for carjacking, evading officers, being a felon in possession of a firearm, hit-and-run and assault with a deadly weapon, Davis said.
