One of two suspects who allegedly robbed an electronics store in Anaheim today was killed in a confrontation with police who exchanged gunfire with him as he holed up in a vehicle in a parking lot.
Police were called just before 2 p.m. to the Fry’s Electronics store at 3370 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn said. Two male suspects, one armed with a handgun, fled the store in a possibly stolen dark-colored SUV that crashed into a pickup truck about a half-mile away at Tustin and Miraloma avenues, Dunn said.
The pickup driver escaped injury, Dunn said.
The suspects ran from the SUV after the crash, but one was tracked down by a California Highway Patrol officer in the area, Dunn said.
The second holed up in a BMW SUV in an automobile auction business parking lot near the crash scene and was found dead about 3:30 p.m. after an exchange of gunfire with SWAT officers inside an armored vehicle, Dunn said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatal exchange took place after police attempted to negotiate with the suspect for about an hour, Dunn said.
