A man forced his way into a Garden Grove home Saturday, armed himself with a knife and threatened to kill a woman before police shot and killed him.
The suspect forced his way into the rear door of a home in the 9900 block of Aldgate Avenue, where the residents called police to report an attempted burglary in progress, said Garden Grove police Lt. Ben Stauffer.
The suspect said he was being chased and asked to be let in. Once inside, he later armed himself with a knife and said he would kill a woman inside the home, Stauffer said.
A man who had been inside the home then armed himself with a shotgun, but was stabbed in the arm by the suspect.
Arriving officers entered the home and confronted the suspect. Police then shot him.
Paramedics rushed the suspect to UCI Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
The slashed male resident was taken to Garden Grove Medical Center, where he was treated for his stab wound, the police lieutenant said.
No officers were injured, Stauffer said.
