Hoping to generate leads in their investigation, Newport Beach police on Tuesday released surveillance video images of a robber who held up a Union Bank branch last week.

The robbery occurred about 2 p.m. Friday at 2865 East Coast Highway, according to Jennifer Manzella of the Newport Beach Police Department.

The armed suspect flashed his weapon at a teller as he demanded cash, Manzella said.

The robber ditched a bag he stuffed the loot in, along with clothes and the gun, Manzella said.

The suspect is a white man in his 30s or 40s who is 6 feet tall and weighs about 180 pounds with a medium build, Manzella said.

Anyone with information helpful to the investigation was asked to call Detective Garrett Fitzgerald at (949) 644-3797 or email him at gfitzgerald@nbpd.org. Anonymous tips may be made by calling (800) 550-NBPD.
