A driver suspected of fleeing after the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a mini-van at a traffic light Wednesday led officers on a chase they terminated because of the suspect’s high speed.

The initial crash occurred at 4:27 p.m. at Westminster Boulevard and Newland Street and caused minor injuries to two young passengers in the mini- van, according to Detective Norma Vasquez of the Westminster Police Department.

The suspect vehicle was located by a patrol officer going east on McFadden Avenue at Magnolia Street and a chase into Santa Ana resulted when the driver didn’t stop.

Four more collisions in Santa Ana after officers terminated the chase resulted in the suspect’s vehicle grinding to a halt, Vasquez said.

The driver was arrested and will be charged with felony evading, felony hit and run with injuries and driving under the influence of alcohol, Vasquez said. He will be booked into the Orange County Jail.
