A 24-year-old motorist was killed as his SUV rear- ended a small truck on the Route 73 toll road in in southern Orange County, and he was identified Saturday as a Carlsbad resident.
Spencer Corgiat was the only person inside the SUV, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Office and CHP.
The crash was on the southbound Route 73, approaching Glenwood Drive. It was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 3:40 p.m. Friday.
Corgiat was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer when it struck a 2007 GMC 4500 box truck at an unknown speed, according to a CHP incident report.
The Explorer then veered to the left into the dirt center divider, where it overturned, according to the CHP.
The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:42 p.m. Friday by arriving firefighters and paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority, according to the Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the box truck was not injured, according to the CHP.
