The American Ballet Theater and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa say that they’ll jointly open a ballet school on the Segerstrom Center campus next September.

It will be called the American Ballet Theater William J. Gillespie School and will be open to students ages 3 to 14. Gillespie is an Orange County philanthropist who’s been on Ballet Theater’s board since 1999.

Former dancer and Ballet Theater ballet mistress Alaine Hauber has been appointed to serve as the school’s principal, according to a joint statement.

The school “will offer unrivaled opportunities for training and nurturing future generations of dancers and dance audiences,” it said.
