A man in his 40s was in custody Monday on suspicion of felony DUI after a cyclist was struck by a pickup truck at an intersection in Fullerton, police said.

The incident occurred at Orangethorpe and Woods avenues at 9:05 p.m. Sunday, said Fullerton police Sgt. Jeff Stewart.

The driver of a Ford F-150 was eastbound in the right lane on Orangethorpe Avenue when he clipped the cyclist, who was in the eastbound bicycle lane, Stewart said. The driver remained at the scene, he said.

The cyclist was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange suffering from bone fractures, lacerations and possible head trauma, Stewart said, adding that nonetheless, he is expected to survive.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, he said.

The incident was under investigation Monday morning, and anyone with information on the accident was urged to contact the Fullerton police watch commander at (714) 738-6800.
