A teen who was fatally stuck by an SUV while trying to retrieve his skateboard in Lake Forest was identified Tuesday.
David Valerio, 16, of Mission Viejo, was trying to grab his skateboard on Trabuco Road north of Cherry Avenue about 6:20 p.m. Monday when he was struck by an Acura SUV, sheriff’s officials said.
The boy and a friend were riding skateboards on the Trabuco Road sidewalk when Valerio lost control of his board, which went into the street. The teen was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The SUV driver remained at the scene. Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the accident, sheriff’s Lt. John Roche said.
Anyone with information was asked to call sheriff’s deputies at (714) 647-7000 or (949) 425-1860. Anonymous tips may be left with Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) 847-6227.
