A man’s body was found Friday in a flood control channel in Garden Grove, police said.

A passerby saw the body about 7:30 a.m. in the channel on the east side of Ward Street north of McFadden Avenue and notified authorities, said Garden Grove police Lt. Ben Stauffer.

“Officers responded to the area, and could see a male body wearing blue jeans stuck on the center pillar of the flood control ditch tunnel (where it goes) under Ward Street,” Stauffer said.

“Due to the rain, there was a large amount of water flowing at high speed through the channel,” Stauffer said. “The Garden Grove Fire Department responded to perform a swift water rescue to retrieve the body from the fast flowing current.”

He said an investigation “is continuing into the identity of the victim and the cause of death to determine if a crime has occurred.”
