A 22-year-old Santa Ana man charged with molesting five boys since June 2012 was facing five more charges next month, a prosecutor said Friday.
Edwin Echeverria — being held on $1 million bail in Orange County Jail – – had his arraignment today rescheduled for Jan. 23, so his attorney could have more time to look over evidence on the additional victims, Deputy District Attorney Whitney Bokosky said.
Echeverria was charged with 11 counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and three counts of lewd acts upon a child ages 14 or 15, dating back to August 2012, according to court records.
He could face up to 275 years to life in prison if convicted at trial.
The victims range in age from 11 to 17 years old, Bokosky said.
Echeverria is accused of luring the boys around the Warwick Square Apartment complex in the 700 block of South Lyon Street, befriending them with chips, soda and other snacks, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said
The most recent alleged sexual assault was in November, Bertagna said.
Parents of one of the boys learned of an apparently “inappropriate relationship” with the suspect, prompting them to call police, Bertagna said.
Investigators can’t recall a case in Santa Ana with this many suspected victims, Bertagna said.
