A 74-year-old man was fighting for his life Friday following a fiery crash involving a car, an SUV, a pickup truck and a motorcycle in Huntington Beach.
Several other people suffered minor injuries in the 10:50 a.m. crash at Edwards Street and Mar Vista Drive, on the Huntington Beach-Westminster border, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.
The most seriously injured patient was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange in critical condition, Concialdi said, noting that firefighters had to cut the senior citizen out of his overturned car, which caught fire.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to UCI, as well, Concialdi said. Two females in another vehicle sustained minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital in Huntington Beach for treatment, Concialdi said.
The motorcyclist, who sustained minor injures, declined medical attention, Concialdi said.
The 74-year-old man, who underwent surgery this afternoon, crashed into the pickup truck and SUV at a red light in the southbound lanes of Edwards at Mar Vista, according to Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt. It was not immediately known why the driver did not yield.
The truck was pushed into the motorcycle, Marlatt said. Flying debris from the crash struck another car, but no one was injured in that vehicle, she said.
