A fire in a two-story duplex in Newport Beach on Tuesday caused about $2 million damage and left a man and woman injured.
The fire in the 300 block of 34th Street was reported at 4:14 a.m. and eventually went to a second alarm, a Metro Cities fire dispatcher said.
Two residents jumped from the second floor of the burning duplex, according to Newport Beach Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Kitch. It did not appear they suffered life-threatening injuries, but they were taken to an area hospital for treatment, Kitch added.
The upper floors sustained extensive fire damage, he said.
Six area residents were displaced, Kitch said.
It took about an hour and 15 minutes to get the fire under control, Kitch said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
