A bicyclist rear-ended by Jeep in Fountain Valley Saturday died Monday at a hospital, and the motorist responsible for the death was arrested, police said.

Vinh Tran, 36, of Westminster died this morning of “traumatic injuries” suffered in the crash, Fountain Valley police Sgt. Steve DeSantis said.

William Klein, 37, of Santa Ana was booked at the Orange County jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI, DeSantis said. Klein, jailed on $100,000 bail, was scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow at the West Justice Center.

The collision at Brookhurst Street and Heil Avenue occurred about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, DeSantis said.

“Investigation revealed (a) Jeep was southbound on Brookhurst when it collided with the rear of the bicyclist, (who was) traveling in the same direction in the street, adjacent to the curb,” DeSantis said. “Preliminary investigation showed that the driver of the Jeep was driving under the influence of prescription drugs.”

Anyone with more information was asked to call Fountain Valley police at (714) 593-4484.
