The body of strangled man found Dec. 1 in a storm channel in Garden Grove was identified Tuesday as that of a 46-year-old man with a history of drug and burglary arrests dating to 1989.
The body of Michael Giordano was spotted against a bridge pillar in the concrete-lined Anaheim-Barber channel by someone on a morning walk after a rainstorm that could have dislodged the body upstream.
Garden Grove police termed the death suspicious — even before an autopsy showed he had been strangled. Coroner’s investigators estimated he had been dead about a week when he was found, dressed in women’s jeans and Vans tennis shoes, according to Garden Grove police.
In 2013, Giordano was sentenced to two years in prison for violating his parole on a drug charge, police said.
Any of his associates — Giordano was known to stay in motels on Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim — with more information about his death was asked to call Detective John Maciel at (714) 741-5824.
