The Orange County Coroner’s Office Saturday named a pedestrian who apparently stepped in front of an Amtrak train in San Clemente Friday and was killed.
The pedestrian was identified as Irvine resident Shiva Maghzi, according to the Coroner’s Office.
The train slammed into Maghzi just before 1:25 p.m. Friday and it appears to be a suicide, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock.
The train struck Maghzi in the 1800 block of Avenida Estacion, close to a Metrolink train station in the north beach area, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.
The incident caused delays for hours as authorities worked the accident scene. Officials said it was a difficult location to use buses as a bridge.
