A 20-year-old Westminster man pleaded guilty Thursday to groping four women in public and was immediately sentenced to three years in prison.
In his plea deal with prosecutors, Matthew Andrew Linville admitted a felony count of false imprisonment by violence and four misdemeanor counts of sexual battery, said Senior Deputy District Attorney Paul Chrisopoulos.
Linville, who has been in jail since September 2013, has enough credit for time in custody that he will likely have another 50 days to serve in prison, Chrisopoulos said.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Richard King also ordered Linville to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, Chrisopoulos said.
“For the victims, the most important thing was the sex offender registration,” Chrisopoulos said. “So he will be monitored and has to register (as a sex offender) for the rest of his life. That was one of the goals of the victims, to have some supervisor over him.”
Linville, who was married at the time of the offenses, had no criminal record, Chrisopoulos said.
Linville grabbed the buttocks of a 34-year-old woman jogging through a neighborhood in Huntington Beach about 6:45 a.m., Aug. 28, 2013, Chrisopoulos said.
Linville grabbed the butt of a 43-year-old woman shopping at a Burlington Coat Factory store in Huntington Beach about 10:40 a.m., Sept. 13, 2013, Chrisopoulos said.
About 11:20 a.m. that same day, Linville lifted up the skirt of a 34-year-old woman from behind, leading her to stumble and fall in a parking structure across the street from the Bella Terra shopping center, Chrisopoulos said.
At 11:45 a.m. that same day, Linville grabbed the butt of a 48-year-old woman in a parking lot at Hoover Golf Center in Westminster, Chrisopoulos said.
Surveillance video from the Burlington Coat Factory helped lead investigators to Linville.
