An Orange County sheriff’s deputy was slightly injured Wednesday chasing a stolen car suspect who led police on a wild pursuit in which he carjacked a second vehicle before running inside a Walmart store, where he was arrested.
When deputies tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle at Brookhurst Street and Broadway just before 2 p.m., the driver refused to pull over, triggering the first part of the chase that ended with a couple of crashes on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway at Euclid Street, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock.
The suspect “bailed” out of that vehicle and ran into the parking lot of Anaheim Plaza, where he stole another vehicle and drove it around the parking lot, but quickly abandoned it and ran into the Walmart store, where he was taken into custody, Hallock said.
A sheriff’s deputy strained his wrist jumping over a wall in pursuing the suspect, who was not immediately identified, Hallock said.
