A 4-year-old boy who jumped out of his mother’s arms and ran into traffic narrowly avoided a serious collision and sustained only minor injuries in Anaheim Thursday afternoon, police said.

The victim and his mom were in the 1200 block of Balsam Avenue when she saw a Nissan sport-utility vehicle coming and scooped her son up to get him out of its path, Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn said. The frightened child, however, broke loose out of his mother’s arms and ran into the side of the vehicle, Dunn said.

The driver stopped and inquired about the boy, who was not seriously hurt, and his mother took him to an area hospital before police arrived, Dunn said.

No citations were issued.
