A boy just a few days short of his second birthday wandered from his Santa Ana home to the street, where he was struck and killed by a motorist on Saturday.
The motorist, who was driving a white Toyota Camry, stayed at the scene and was cooperative, said Santa Ana Police Sgt. Lorenzo Carrillo.
“The driver said he did not see the toddler prior to the location,” Carrillo said.
The police sergeant said the child wandered about a block away from his home in the 800 block of South New Hope Street about 10 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by the motorist.
Paramedics rushed the child to an area hospital, where he later died, he said.
Carrillo said the investigation into the child’s death was ongoing.
