A suspicious device forced evacuations at Chapman University Thursday, but investigators later determined the object was inert and posed no threat, authorities said.
The suspicious device was found about 9 a.m. to the rear of the Waltmar Theatre on the university campus off of Palm Avenue and Grand Street, Orange police Lt. Fred Lopez said.
Bomb squad investigators fired a round into it and when it didn’t explode they declared it inert, Lopez said. It’s possible it was a prop from the theater, he added.
By 11 a.m., everything was back to normal on campus, Lopez said.
