An armed man was shot and killed by an Anaheim Police Officer who was following a suspect wanted on an arrest warrant Saturday, police said.

The initial suspect was a woman wanted on an arrest warrant. Officers received information that the woman was in north Anaheim, where officers saw her and a man get into a Toyota Prius, said Anaheim Police Lt. Eric Trapp.

The vehicle was followed from Anaheim into the city of Orange, where it stopped at about 8:30 a.m. in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Glassell Street. There, the man — now armed — got out of the Prius, Trapp said.

Police fired at least one weapon, but it was not immediately clear if the man shot at officers or at himself. There was also no word if the woman suspect in the Prius, or any police officers, were injured.

The police lieutenant said the officers were equipped with body-worn cameras.

The intersection of Lincoln at Glassell was closed until further notice, Orange Police said. They referred all media inquires to the Anaheim Police Department, who were in the early stages of determining what happened.

“Because it happened in the city of Orange, per county protocol, the city of Orange is charged with investigating our officer-involved shooting, along with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office,” Trapp said.
