A man suspected of making criminal threats held police at bay in Orange on Sunday after officers chased him through several Orange County communities.
Police originally were informed of the threats just after 11 a.m., according to the Tustin Police Department watch commander.
While the threats were made against a Tustin woman, officers began chasing the man’s vehicle about 5:30 p.m. after going to his home in Irvine, according to news reports.
About 6 p.m. the suspect stopped outside the Lamoreaux Justice Center in the 300 block of The City Drive South in Orange.
Officers with guns drawn took up positions behind a police cruiser and later a large SWAT vehicle was positioned behind the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect then moved the vehicle he was driving and police vehicles again repositioned themselves to block any escape.
The standoff ended about 9:15 p.m. when the man, acting combatively, got out of the SUV and was met with less-lethal rounds and a police dog, according to reports from the scene.
He was taken into custody and would be checked out at a hospital before being taken to jail, police said.
It was believed the man was armed with a handgun, according to news reports, but it was unclear if one was recovered.
