
Two people were injured when the car they were travelling in went off the freeway in Costa Mesa and into a flood control channel, a Costa Mesa fire battalion chief said.
The accident happened shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday on the northbound State rout 55 near Baker Street, Battalion Chief Kevin Diamond said.
Two people were trapped inside and had to be extricated by the Costa Mesa Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue team, he said. Both were transported to a nearby trauma center. Their conditions are not known at this time.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. It is not know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
