A man wielding a knife was fatally shot Monday by Anaheim police.
An officer who was in the midst of a traffic stop at about 2:40 p.m. in the 300 block of West La Palma Avenue was charged by a man unrelated to the traffic stop, Anaheim police Lt. Eric Trapp said. He said the man was carrying a large kitchen knife.
Another officer who was in the area saw the attack and stopped to help, and the suspect — who was believed to be in his 30s — charged the second officer, Trapp said.
Both officers opened fire on the suspect, who was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Trapp said.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the shooting, which is standard protocol. The Office of Independent Review will also analyze the incident, Trapp said.
