A 23-year-old Santa Ana man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of illegally possessing 16 ferrets, which are banned in the state.

Animal control officers received a tip that someone had ferrets and was trying to sell them, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. The information led officers to the home of Sebastian Alexander Swisher in the 3200 block of South Center Street, where he was arrested, Bertagna said.

Swisher is accused of buying the pets in Nevada and bringing them back to California to sell, Bertagna said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the ferrets are worth, Bertagna said.
