A standoff between police SWAT teams from Buena Park and Anaheim at a Buena Park house where a shooting suspect was believed to be holed up ended early Wednesday when officers entered the home and reportedly found the suspect dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The shooting that precipitated the stand-off took place about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 10th Street and Kingman Avenue, said Buena Park police Cpl. Bret Carter. Officers later spoke with the shooting victim, who identified the man who shot him, he said.
Carter said the man who was shot was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange in critical condition.
“The last thing I heard was the victim was still in surgery,” Buena Park Police Lt. Rich Forsyth said at 12:45 a.m.
Carter said that people in the area were evacuated. Forsyth said the intersection of 10th Street and Kingman Avenue was closed to traffic.
SWAT teams fired tear gas canisters into the house where the suspect was believed to be hiding, but no one emerged from the home, a news videographer reported from the scene around 12:30 a.m. today.
The suspect was later found dead, ABC7 reported.
