A three-vehicle crash at Harbor Boulevard and Baker Street in Costa Mesa sent three people to area hospitals with non-life- threatening injuries, a fire department battalion chief said.

The crash happened about 3:15 p.m. and forced a shutdown of the northbound lanes as firefighters worked to pull a patient from one of the vehicles, according to Costa Mesa Fire Department Battalion Chief Kevin Diamond.

The three victims were taken to area trauma centers, but were expected to survive, Diamond said.
